Humans (or Land People/Dwellers by the merpeople)[1] is a term referring to a species, for which the Latin name is Homo sapiens. Humans are omnivorous, mortal, sentient beings beings that originated in Africa. They are commonly noted for their desire to influence and understand the environment by seeking to explain and manipulate phenomena through mythology, philosophy, religion, and science.
When mermen are born, their mothers (who are mermaids) cast the Legs Spell on them and gives them up to human foster families on land, as it is an unbreakable rule since the war that happened between them. And as such, it is likely that some coastal families knows about the merpeople by raising the son of a mermaid as their own.
Human beings can undergo Metamorphosis in any Moon Pool when the Full Moon is up, resulting later in their first transformation into a merperson. They also obtain powers over water and can change aspects of the weather. Fledgling mermaids are tasked by the Mermaid Council mostly to prevent this from happen, up until they finish Mermaid School, are given a Moon Ring and can attend the Full Moon Ceremony along with others.
Weaknesses
- Mortality - Humans are susceptible to many common forms of death (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, drowning).
- Metamorphosis - Human beings can undergo Metamorphosis in any Moon Pool when the Full Moon is up, resulting later in their first transformation into a merperson. They also obtain powers over water and can change aspects of the weather. The only exception to this are the former merpeople that had been bewitched by the Water Dragon's cold fire, which makes them permanently immune to its effects.
- Enchantment Song - Human men may be entranced by a Siren's enchantment song, following her around or obeying her every command, until the curse is lifted. Mermaids native from the sea are often known to sing their enchanting lullabies to lure sailors away to their watery graves.
- Magic - Humans are susceptible to the effects of magic, like when Jiao Long was turned into a Water Dragon by the unknown pod of merpeople.
Trivia
- If humans somehow absorbs Moon Water, they get powers over water and their swimming are enhanced. However, the Moon Water on them will become unstable by acting like a magnet, attracting all regular water around. It can be removed from their bodies via the power of freezing, also known as Cryokinesis.
- Sea-born merpeople can cast a spell to grant themselves human legs, walk on land and mingle with land people. However, such an enchantment is forbidden by all Mermaid Councils worldwide. This magic can be easily reversed by physical contact with water, though.
- Almost all Eastern mermaids were turned into human beings by the Water Dragon's cold fire, resulting in the ancient pod's disbandment. Weilan and her grandmother were the only mermaids that had escaped unharmed.
